For Two Nights Only! – "The Skivvies: I Touch My Elf!" Laguna Playhouse

Updated: Jun 19, 2020

(For Those Who Like Their Christmas a Little Bit Naughty…)

Returning to the Laguna Playhouse for two nights of the most outrageous holiday show of the season, Broadway stars Lauren Molina (“Rock of Ages,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Mary Zimmerman’s Candide” – Helen Hayes Award, “Marry Me A Little”) and Nick Cearley (“First National,” “All Shook Up,” “Pageant,” ) once again present their crowd-pleasing, underground-comedy rockfest,“The Skivvies: I Touch My Elf.” Featured in People Magazine's Hottest Bodies Issue as “Most Playful Performers,” the Wall Street Journal calls them "highly original...smart...ingenious."

With special guest appearances by Nick Adams (Broadway's “Chicago,” “Chorus Line,” and “Guys and Dolls”), jackbenny (Disney Hall, Hollywood Bowl), Erik Altemus, Emerson Collins (“Buyer and Cellar”), Spencer Curnutt (“The Lion In Winter”), Laguna’s own Jason Feddy, Blake McIver, Tori Roze, Brett Ryback and the Playhouse’s Veltria Roman, the wildly fun show is packed with big voices and crazy harmonies…but no pants!

Nominated in 2015 for “Show of The Year” for the MAC Award, Out Magazine refers to them as part Weird Al- parody and part sexy burlesque…an unusual explosion of satire and sultry.” Sports Illustrated labeled them their “Favorite New Band.” The New York Times calls them “a hot musical duo specializing in unexpected arrangements, eclectic covers, incongruous, genre-hopping mashups, and of course, highly toned displays of skin.”

NYC actor/musicians Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley met in 2003, performing in Theatreworks USA’s national tour of the “Just So Stories.” Quickly becoming best friends and musical collaborators, they began performing together in the city, with clothes on.“The Skivvies” were born in 2012, when they became YouTube sensations with their unique covers of artists like Robyn, Carole King and Rihanna. The videos led to live shows, and now this “musically thrilling” comedy-pop duo continues to ring in the holidays to sold-out audiences throughout the country.

Previous venues include 54 Below, 42 West, The Highline Ballroom, Roseland Ballroom, Joe’s Pub, The Cutting Room, Rockwell Table & Stage in Los Angeles, The Smith Center in Las Vegas, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Huntington Theatre Company in Boston, City Theatre in Pittsburgh, Bay Street Theatre, Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center and Key West’s Red Barn Theatre. "The Skivvies" have also performed at events such as Broadway Bares (raising money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS), "A Tribute to Angela Lansbury" with Tyne Daly and Christine Ebersole, Broadway for Obama, Human Rights Campaign benefit, and Theatre C. They have made appearances on NBC, and filmed pilots for FOX, A&E, and WE. They also have a single, “Hardbody Hoedown” and a music video directed by Augusten Burroughs, bestselling author of “Running With Scissors.”

Theatrically, Nick and Lauren performed Off-Broadway together in “Sex Tips For Straight Women From A Gay Man.” They were also cast as Brad and Janet in "The Rocky Horror Show" at Bucks County Playhouse, directed by Hunter Foster. And now, “The Skivvies” has brought their holiday show “I Touch My Elf” back to the forefront, beginning at New York’s "Joe's Pub" on December 3rd, with their tour continuing with two performances only at Laguna Playhouse in Laguna Beach, December 16th & 17th at 7:30pm.
